Community Education

At Journey Center for Safety and Healing, we believe providing basic education on topics relating to domestic violence, dating violence, and child abuse is critical to building awareness and addressing these public health crises in our community.

  • Journey Center offers educational presentations on the dynamics of domestic violence and child abuse, as well as agency programs, and services in a variety of venues including but not limited to: businesses, community groups, social service agencies, schools, churches, etc.

  • Journey Center provides resource tables at various health fairs, community forums, and other events.

Professional Training 

Journey Center offers a wide variety of professional training workshops to the greater Cleveland area. As an agency, we provide trainers with expertise in the areas of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Child Abuse, and other related topics.  

Expanding our knowledge of these issues is critical to providing effective support, intervention, and resources to families experiencing trauma and violence.

  • Professional training workshops are appropriate for and beneficial to anyone who works with youth and families in any capacity

  • We are able to offer training at Journey Center’s administrative office or on-site at your agency

  • All training workshops can be modified to meet your organizational needs

  • Journey Center is an accredited provider of CEUs for social workers and counselors. CEUs are available for all professional training

Journey Center Professional Training

Child Abuse: Know How to Respond
1 Hour Training   |   CEUs available 

This training is designed for individuals who interact with children.  The training will provide a statistical overview of maltreatment and review the forms of maltreatment.  It will also cover best practices in responding to disclosures and making the report to the appropriate agency.


 

Domestic Violence – History of the Movement to “What’s Trending”?
1-1.5 Hour Training   |   CEUs available 

This training will look back at the history of domestic violence and the movement. We will discuss where the movement is at and where we are headed including discussing “trending” topics and phrases in the world of domestic violence.


 

Domestic Violence Advocacy
1.5 Hour Training   |   CEUs available 

This training is designed for individuals to take away an understanding of what domestic violence is and is not. Attendees will know how to define domestic violence, types of abuse, and what the cycle of violence is. Attendees will know how to respond to someone who may be experiencing an unhealthy or abusive relationship.

This training is designed for professionals working with families that have been impacted by domestic violence. The training provide information on the impact of domestic violence on a family unit including a focus on intergenerational trauma. We will discuss the impact domestic violence has on families and children including resiliency factors and trauma responses.


 

Safety Planning with Survivors
1.5 Hour Training   |   CEUs available 

This training is designed for individuals and professionals to understand the importance of safety planning with those experiencing domestic violence. Attendees will know the importance of an individualized safety planning that includes safety for individuals in staying in their relationships, those who are unsure, and those that are leaving. They will know and understand safety tips and plans for multiple scenarios and situations.


 

Self-Care for Advocates
1.5 Hour Training   |   CEUs available 

This training will talk about the symptoms and risk factors for burnout and vicarious trauma. We will talk about the importance of self-care and strategies for those who are working with individuals and families experiencing domestic violence including the importance of recognizing the advocates role as helpers.


 

The Abuser as a Parent
1.5 Hour Training   |   CEUs available 

This training will discuss the dynamics of male abusers through a research based lens. We will look closely at the characteristics of the abuser as a parent and the potential implications for children in the home.


 

Understanding Abusers
1.5 Hour Training   |   CEUs available 

This training is designed for professionals to better understand the dynamics of male abusers through a research-based lens. By the end of this training, attendees should better understand the question, “Why does he do that?”


 

Understanding Victims
1.5 Hour Training   |   CEUs available 

This training is designed for professionals to better understand the dynamics of victims of domestic violence. By the end of this training, attendees should better understand the question, “Why do victims stay?”


 

Working with Survivors 
1.5 Hour Training   |   CEUs available 

This training is designed for professionals to be better prepared to work with individuals and families experiencing domestic violence. At the end of the training, attendees will know what to say/not say, know what an advocate is and is not through the lens of an empowerment model, and have tools to better serve their clients.
