Supervised Visitation Awareness Month
May is Supervised Visitation Awareness Month and today, May 14, is Supervised Visitation Awareness Day- a day and month dedicated to raise awareness about the need and impact of supervised visitation.
Journey Center wants to recognize the important work our Safe & Sound Supervised Visitation Center does to support children and families.
Safe & Sound is the only one of its kind in Cuyahoga County helping high-risk, high-conflict families in need of safe, supervised visits. The program meets a critical need in the community by increasing the safety of the child(ren) and the residential parent or guardian when domestic violence, mental health or substance abuse is an issue, or when other significant life challenges may put the child(ren) at risk.
Journey Center recognizes that separation can be a difficult time for all members of the family. However, children need additional support and reassurance during these times. Families may need assistance in providing safe and consistent quality time for children to visit the non-residential family member. Safe & Sound provides that environment.
Our monitors stay with families for the duration of their visit and all interactions are documented. Monitors also provide parenting guidance and/or life skill development to visiting families and work to ensure that children are not traumatized by witnessing conflict between their parents, enabling parents to abide by protection orders and providing safety for those that have experienced domestic violence.
Journey Center’s Safe & Sound Supervised Visitation Center supported 1,132 supervised visits and safe exchanges for children of separated parents in the last year.
