Danielle's Story
Danielle grew up in an upper-middle-class home. Two weeks after graduating from college with a business degree she married her college sweetheart.
Years later, as a mother of two, she divorced and remarried. Her new husband quickly changed from being protective to being acutely jealous of her interactions with any other men. Eventually, the abuse turned physical, and she had to call the police.
When she heard about Journey Center and how it helped victims of domestic violence, she wondered, “Could that be me? It sounded like me, but I didn’t have a black eye or a broken bone. I did have bruises from his fingers gripping my arm.”
Eventually, when he threatened her with a gun, she left. “It wasn’t until I started going to a Support Group that I learned how typical my situation was. In fact, it was almost textbook.”
