Helen's Story

My daughter, Katie, and I arrived at Shelter. Between us, we had a broken arm, black eye, cigarette burns, and a 12 inch laceration requiring staples and stitches.

I was terrified to let Katie out of my sight, but, over time, we began to embrace the offerings at Shelter. I made a painting for Katie, apologizing for the abuse she had been exposed to. Through tears, I explained the guilt I felt and that I did not want her to be disappointed or hurt by anyone ever again.

Today, we are optimistic.

I am grateful to Journey Center for letting us do things at our own pace.
