A Day in the Life of a PACE Advocate

What does a day in the life of a PACE (Prevention and Community Education) Community Advocate look like? Well, no matter what day of the week, it starts with a big cup of coffee of course and from there the day looks different depending on what day of the week it is.

Monday is typically a day full of contacting clients, checking in and seeing how clients are doing, connecting them with services and resources, and completing intakes for our Education Classes. With that comes documentation and entering information into our database. Monday is also the day I prepare for all the classes (Domestic Violence Education Classes and ACT Parenting) that I have for the remainder of the week.

Tuesday mornings always start with Domestic Violence (DV) Education Classes. Our DV classes are my favorite to facilitate. I get to see so much growth and and witness clients’ confidence increase with each week.

Wednesdays are the perfect catch-up days for me, I have no classes on this day, so I have time to prep for the remaining classes and get caught up on client advocacy. This means I can focus on new referrals or services my clients may need.

My busiest day are definitely Thursdays! Thursday mornings start with facilitating our ACT Parenting classes. Parenting classes fly by because it's so activity based and there’s so much to learn and do each week. After Parenting Class I join in on case review for the MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) with Canopy Child Advocacy Center. I enjoy hopping on those calls, it's interesting to see so many different organizations join together for each individual case. After the MDT I prep for the evening DV Class and before I know it, DV class is done, and the day is over.

Finally, Fridays are another great opportunity for catching up on any documentation, advocacy, and getting an early start on prepping for the next week!

Although it may sound like a very busy week with packed days of classes and advocating for clients when clients successfully complete classes, reach out and share the impact our services made, get reunited with their children, or simply thanks me for helping them, it makes it all worth coming back the next week and doing it all over again!

Journey Center's PACE program provided 100 education classes in FY 24. We are thankful for advocates, like McKenzie, who provide a safe, supportive environment.
