Janine's Story

I was married at 18 to my childhood sweetheart. It was good at first, but after we had two children, he lost his job, became moody and then violent with me. Each time after his abuse I racked my brain for what I had done to cause him to hurt me. My family eventually convinced me I was just making excuses for him. I hesitantly decided we had to leave.

I was trembling from fear when we entered Shelter.

But I soon found strength from group Therapy. I feel like I’m moving toward a more secure future for me and my children.
